On February 3rd, NICD board member and former Indiana congressman Lee Hamilton passed away at age 94. NICD mourns the loss of Lee Hamilton and reflects gratefully on his legacy of dedicated public service.
Hamilton served Indiana in the House of Representatives for 34 years. His time there was marked by principled leadership and a deep commitment to working across the aisle. Over the course of his life, Hamilton developed a reputation as one of the nation’s foremost experts on Congress and representative democracy. After the immense tragedy of the September 11th attacks, Representative Hamilton once again served the nation as the vice-chair of the congressional commission responsible for investigating the terrorist attacks. His contributions to NICD were marked by the same integrity and desire to find common ground that defined his time in elected office. NICD was fortunate to receive his guidance and wisdom as a member of our advisory board.
As we look back on Lee Hamilton’s life, NICD’s board and staff honor his many years of service to this country and seek to carry on his model of bipartisan leadership.
